Oculoplasty
The eyes contribute significantly to the total personality of a person.
Surgical correction of various deformities of the eyelid and the region
around the eye is carried out at the Institute. These structures are important not only for
appearance but also the normal functioning and health of the eyes.
Oculoplasty is surgery of the eyelids, eyebrows or eye sockets.
Oculoplasty surgery may be performed in order to improve function,
comfort, and appearance.
One such procedure is Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as an eyelid
lift.
Drooping of the upper eyelid (ptosis) is a common problem
If the lid droop is very severe especially in young children,
it can even lead to lazy eye (amblyopia). Hence correction of the
condition is essential for
functional and cosmetic improvement.
Orbit
Orbit is the bony cavity enclosing the eye. The orbit can be the seat
of tumors that cause
protrusion of the eyeball (proptosis). The lacrimal system drains
tears into the nose and could
be the site of chronic infection (dacryocystitis).
Surgical treatment for orbital tumors.
- Orbitotomy.
- Socket Reconstruction - Surgical restoration of deformed sockets to improve cosmetic
appearance.
- Ocular prosthetics - Artificial eyeshells to rehabilitate patients who have lost an eye due
to various reasons.
